You’ve put your book through developmental edits, it’s gone through a line edit, and now you’re feeling confident that your book baby is close to perfect. Well, there’s one final step involved in the editing/publishing process that should not be missed: proofreading.
A proofread of your book will help you catch every last punctuation error, silly typos that may have been missed in your novel, so you can publish your book and know it’s error-free.
Then, we celebrate! Your draft will be a chef’s kiss of perfection, which is something to celebrate after years of work, dedication, and editing!f
*** Proofreading is typically completed after your book has been formatted/typeset and is nearly ready for publication. However, if you’re planning to handle the typesetting yourself, I’m more than happy to proofread your manuscript beforehand.

Proofread
A proofread will:
- Catch typos, repeated words, and small slips often missed in earlier edits
- Check dialogue punctuation and formatting
- Maintain consistency in character names, timelines, and key details
- Deliver a clean, professional, publication-ready manuscript
Who needs a proofreader?
Everyone. Seriously. Every single person who writes needs a proofreader – even the greatest of writers, the grammar nerds, and the editors who work in the big five publishing houses.
Proofreading is one of those things that can’t be missed if you want your novel to succeed. It separates the bad reviews from the good.
What is a proofread?
My proofreading services provide you with a final check of your book baby, alerting you to any formatting issues (and pesky typos) introduced throughout formatting.
I conduct a proofreading in Adobe Acrobat using the typeset draft of your book. This way, you can take it back to your typesetter and have it finalised!

What my authors have to say
I was honestly blown away by the number of errors that still existed in what I thought was my final draft. Abbie found them all! Every inconsistency, every tiny typo I’d stopped seeing after the tenth draft was caught. It gave me so much confidence hitting publish knowing my book was that actually clean and error free.
Emma Collins
As a first-time author, I had no idea how many little things I was overlooking when my book was formatted. A river? The way dashes look from line to line? Margins? Who would have thought formatting would create so many errors that genuinely make the book look so unprofessional!! I’d recommend a proofread to everyone it to anyone publishing their first manuscript because it really makes a big difference on the final copy.
Hannah Whitmore
I was nervous handing my manuscript over for proofreading because it felt so close to finished, but I’m glad I did. Abbie’s attention to detail was incredible, and she caught so many things I would’ve regretted publishing with. It actually made me feel more confident about my work.
