So You Wrote A Book . . .

So You Wrote A Book . . .

And now you're wondering wtf to do next

Line Edit

You’ve had a developmental/structural edit, and you’re happy with where your story is! Congrats! Now it’s time for the second type of edit: the line edit, also commonly called the copyedit.

A line edit is like giving your manuscript a spa day (though it takes much longer than one day!). It’s where I dive deep into every sentence, smoothing out wrinkles, applying a fresh coat of polish, and ensuring every word sparkles like a gemstone. A line edit enhances the beauty of your prose, cleans up all the grammar, spelling and punctuation errors, and makes your story shine brighter than ever before.

Through a line edit, I’ll read line by line and word by word while making suggested changes via track changes, as well as comments full of suggestions to help you revise your work. My goal is never to change your tone or writing style but to help you enhance your writing so that your story is clear and easy to read.

Line Edit Cost: $0.023 AUD per word

Let’s do It!

Line Edit

A Line edit will:

  1. Look at the flow and structure of each sentence.
  2. Check for grammatical errors.
  3. Focus on ensuring that each sentence and paragraph contributes to the overall clarity of your writing.
  4. Ensure that your writing style and tone are consistent throughout the book.
  5. Evaluate word choice to ensure that the language used is appropriate for the intended audience.
  6. Check for consistency in spelling, formatting, capitalisation, etc.
  7. Look at so much more!

I can’t wait to work with you!

Let’s do it
What do I get with a line edit?

A beautiful and clean book baby that’s almost ready for publishing!

I’ll provide you with in-line track changes full of suggestions and comments.

I’ll also provide you with a style sheet for your reference.

Do I have to do a developmental edit first?

While I highly highly highly recommend you do a developmental edit before a line edit, this is your book! You do only what you can do and afford. 🙂

However, I require all fantasy books to have a developmental edit prior to a line edit. As fantasy includes all the world-building and magic and fun things like dragons, a developmental edit is required to make sure it works.

Remember, I want your book to be the very best it can be!

Can I do a sample edit?

Absolutely! This is a great way to see if we’re compatible.

I usually request one to two chapters from the middle of the book.

Who should get a line editor?

Anyone and everyone! Many people often think they only need a developmental editor and a proofreader, but the truth is that line edits are sometimes more important than both.

A line edit cleans up the writing and makes it grammatically and punctually accurate, which makes for a much better reading experience for your book.

What my authors are saying

Abbie’s line edit was exactly what my book needed. She has an incredible eye for language—tightening sentences, elevating clarity, and smoothing flow without stripping away my voice. It still sounds like me, just sharper, cleaner, and far more polished. I found myself nodding along to almost every change.

Olivia Bennett

Abbie absolutely got my romance. She didn’t flatten the emotion or over-polish it, but instead, she sharpened it. She even picked up on small inconsistencies in tone between scenes that were quietly diluting the slow burn. I loved her comments throughout the book where she was basically just screaming in excitement. It made the comments and changes feel so much less daunting. I finished going through her edits and immediately wanted to reread my own book which had never happened before.

Sophie Smith

So glad I found Abbie through TikTok. Her business, edits, and genuine kindness was something so hard to find when looking for an editor!

Connor Walsh

I’ll be honest, I was prepared to defend a lot of my sentences. Turns out I didn’t need to. Abbie somehow fixed clunky phrasing without losing what I was trying to say, and more than once I thought, “annoyingly, that is much better.” I can’t wait to publish this book now!!

Priya Nair

I didn’t realise how much stronger my writing could be until she got her hands on it. The result feels professional in a way I couldn’t have achieved on my own.

Esme Williams

What sets Abbie apart is her restraint. She doesn’t overwrite or impose—she enhances which was the one thing I was most nervous about. Every edit she made felt purposeful, and she always respected the tone I was going for. I’ve learned a lot about my writing style just by reviewing her edits and can’t wait to send her book two later this year.
